Why is it so hard to get square(d) paper notepads in UK?

Foreigner here. I've lived here for 15 years, and I still can't understand why the squared paper is so uncommon here. A lot of stationeries (sp?) don't carry it, or just have one variant in one format for the whole shop, if at all. Like, an A5 spiral notepad and that's it.

Where I'm from (Germany/Poland), it's super common. You get A4, A5, A6, A3, spiral or no spiral, hard cover or soft cover, 32, 64 pages etc., whatever. It's commonly used for maths classes in school as well (do you guys use blank or lined notepads for this? confused).

Ultimately, I usually resort to buying Pukka Pads on Amazon, but it costs through the roof.

FWIW, I'm not talking about millimeter paper, the one with a very fine grid, that's a different thing entirely.
